I have been married for over 30 years, and I can’t tell you the number of nonstick pans I have gone through during that time. A few years ago Ree Drummond, through her blog, introduced me to the merits of cast iron cooking.
I purchased this pan which I use almost every day. When buying a cast iron skillet do yourself a favor and pick up this cast iron cleaner, it has proved invaluable to me in keeping my cast iron clean and sanitary.
I, personally, do not use dishwashing liquid on my cast iron. I simply use hot water and the stainless steel chainmail cast iron cleaner that I referenced above. After rinsing the skillet in hot water, I dry it immediately with paper towels. After drying, I pour about a teaspoon of vegetable oil in the skillet and rub over the inside with a second paper towel. That’s it.
I did purchase a lid which I use almost every time I use my pan.
This cast iron skillet has replaced all of my nonstick pans and allowed me to get off of the never ending cycle of replacing my saute pans every couple of years.
