Pound Cake

This is a recipe from Paula Dean that she named “Mama’s Pound Cake”. It is delicious by itself and also as a base for strawberry shortcake. So good!

Pound Cake (Paula Deen)

1/2 pound (2 sticks) butter at room temperature plus more for the pan

1/2 cup vegetable shortening

3 cups sugar

5 eggs

3 cups all-purpose flour plus more for the pan

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1 cup milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

With a mixer, cream softened butter and shortening together.

Add sugar, a little at a time.

Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating after each addition.

Sift all dry ingredients into a bowl and then whisk to combine.

Add flour mixture to mixer alternately with milk, starting and ending with the flour mixture.

Mix in vanilla.

Pour into a greased and floured tube (or bundt) pan and bake for 1 hour 15 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean.

Slice and enjoy!
