Why we should desire to be well traveled –
“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.” – Mark Twain
I so love this quote written by Mark Twain and so admire the sister in Christ who shared it on Facebook. Sara Groves posted this quote on her Facebook page which I follow. What I admire about Sara is how intuitive she is about what needs to be said, but always honors the Lord in how she shares that message.
I have not had the privilege of traveling outside of the US, except to Canada, and have desperately wished I could. After reading this quote and taking it to heart, I feel I have a more noble reason for wanting to see more of the world – to better understand and have more empathy for those who are different than myself. How about you?
How about you? Have you been able to travel internationally? Where did you go and what were some of your experiences? How have your travels changed your mind about what you perhaps once thought? Do share!
May God bless.
